Hello,

I am trying to play over modem line but the calling computer just complains
that it can't find a game on the remote machine. Any ideas?

check your versions. I've had the same problems on both modem and ipx games.  If
one of you has the patch and the other doesn't, you'll never see each other.

I had the same problem... But both computers had the correct versions. 
Diablo support told me to simply uninstall and reinstall again. 
REMEMBER: to Uncheck the box about removing saved characters,but I
noticed that single player games were deleted, yet multi were still
saved. So who knows...   try it though.
