Is it just me, or are the higher level spells relatively useless when compared with the lower level spells and better rankings? For example, a solid lightning bolt at a level 7 ot 8 is usually sufficient for 6 mana to take out most things, or a couple anyway, rather than casting fireball for 26 mana, and making certain to kill it (ifitisn't moving). Bone Spirit?? Lousy! Elemental?? Pretty useless. I don't know, but Fire Wall and Flame Wave are my babies. -- ...and the sky turned the color of Pepto Bismol.... Love Always, Linsel Greene

Fireball will become your best friend once you've read several
books. At high levels, fireball only takes six mana and does massively
more damage than lightning. And, of course, it's works on monsters
which are immune to lightning.
Bone spirit's useless as far as I can tell, though some people
have told me it's very nice for killing careless cheaters with a million
hit points. Zap them and they lose hundreds of thousands at a time.

But I totally agree with your comments on Bone Spirit and Elemental (although it looks cool). I never use Flame Wave though... Golem, Apocalypse, Nova and Teleport are all very useful 4th level spells. One of the best things about this game is the fact that the spells are really quite different - not just 7 or 8 "mass damage" type spells which do varying degrees of damage, like some old D&D type games. Agreed, at a decent level it's superb for taking out the Counselors at a
distance and I've even flattened two or three Hell Spawn at a time with
one fireball. In Lazarus' Lair I drop a couple of flame walls into the
witch pens before teleporting in then mop them up with fireball.
