Internet Phone and Battlenet

Hi folks,

I was just wondering if anybody out there has tried to use an internet
phone type product and Diablo on battlenet at the same time. The
point? To be able to talk to the people you are playing with.

I suspect that the requirements on the CPU would be too hight but I
can't try this myself since I only have a half duplex sound card and a
14.4 modem. To have a hope of working you would want a full duplex
sound card and a 28.8 modem.

Has anybody tried this? Did it work? If so what hardware did you
have.

I'm also considering buying a DSVD or ASVD modem but then these would
only work on modem play games and not battlenet games.

I don't think it's so much a question of requirements on the CPU being
too high as it is the limited bandwidth being used up. Diablo
requires a 28.8 minimum to play over battle.net, and even that gets
slowed down to the point where the other players and monsters are too
jumpy with four players. I don't see why it wouldn't work, except
maybe Win95's pathetic handling of multitasking might not let you do
it, but you'd need at least a 64k ISDN.

Just to add in, I do not think you can use Internet Phone and play
Diablo at the same time. This is because both programs will be
requesting services from the sound card. This is unless you have 2
sound cards. Not very sure on this though. Haven't tried it b4. Maybe
someone can comment?

When Diablo's sound is on, all other Win95 sound ceases to function on my
computer. Is this with anyone else?? If so, then I would say you could
not do chat or iphone with Diablo running!

programs from using sound. Even system sounds. This is probably due to
DirectSound and the way it interacts with the PC hardware.
