I just started play the game and I was wondering a few things.

What is the patch that everyone is talking about?
If I get on battle.net and get killed will I lose my character?
Do I have to join battle.net?
What time is the best to log on to battle.net?
How many levels are there to the game?

If you can answer these questions Merlin will look kindly apon you .....

16 levels on three difficulties. 1-4 are the dungeon, 5-8 are the
catacoms, 9-12 are the caves, and 13-16 are hell.

: Do I have to join battle.net?

No, you do not have to join battle.net if you don't want to. Do it
anyway though (it's tons of fun).

: What time is the best to log on to battle.net?

The same time it's best to be on the net - off hours. After 11 P.M.
is usually better, and between 3 and 10 P.M. are usually unbearable.

: If I get on battle.net and get killed will I lose my character?

No, you won't lose your character. If you are killed by another
player, you will drop half of your gold; if you are killed by a
monster, you will drop all your equipped items in addition to half
your gold.

The patch is an update that fixes several bugs with the game, and
stops (supposedly) 3 kinds of cheating that goes on: 1.) TownKill,
where other players have the ability to attack you in town; 2.)
AutoKill, where other players can kill your character with the press
of a button, no matter where you are; and 3.) Duplicating items, where
if the game detects two of the same magical or unique items on the
ground it deletes one of them, excluding scrolls, potions and normal
weapons/shields/armor/bows.

Well...it's a patch. Something strange about it?

> If I get on battle.net and get killed will I lose my character?

No, only items u have outside the inventory.

> Do I have to join battle.net?

No. But if u want the patch u have to join.

> What time is the best to log on to battle.net?

No matter. There are ppl all the time...

> How many levels are there to the game?

I don't understand. Do u mean dungeon levels?
There are 16.

Actually, go to Blizzard's web site and download the patch:

    http://www.blizzard.com/library/patches.htm

It is about 340kb. If you log onto battle.net, of course, it will be applied
automatically and effortlessly.

Be seeing you,

You can automatically download the patch when you log on to Battle Net.
It'll check your version number, do some math, then spew forth a patch if
it feels like it. Once it's done you can re-log on to BattleNet and then
you can have a dungeon romp with fellow Diablo players. The patch had beed
created by Blizzard to counter the 'cheating' that was going on. People
were able to kill others in Town with spells or a single mouse click, dupe
items, etc.

> If I get on battle.net and get killed will I lose my character?

Nope. If you get creamed by a monster you will lose all equiped items and
some gold. If another player decides that he wants to remove your body and
soul VIOLENTLY, you will only lose some gold.

> Do I have to join battle.net?

No certainly not. Blizzard will not send an orc brigand to you home, kick
down the door, and force you to play a straight TEN hours of battle net
before you colapse from utter exhaustion.

> What time is the best to log on to battle.net?

Why are you asking us this question? If I had ESP and could figure out
your ISP, Time Zone, and modem speed, I COULD regurgitate some useful
info that you would likely ignore anyway :-( But you (note the word YOU)
can try this. Log on at different times of the day and note how much lag
(lag=those evil looking red bars beside peoples names on the Bnet) you
experience. Then you can figure out when is the best time to make
Battlenet your new home. Usually Friday, Sat, and Sun have the most
concentration of crazed Diablo players logged on chatting/hacking away.

> How many levels are there to the game?

WHAT?! And ruin the fun for you? No way!

Later,
