I got the stupid patch yesterday and tried to modify my character with Enigma's trainer and guess what: it doesn't work anymore! Those jerk-offs who made the patch so you can't modify anymore really stink. I am pissed beyond human comprehension at this. For someone like myslef who has beaten the game multiple times and just wants to have fun with it now, this really sucks. A plague upon those who have caused me this agony. -- -The Brewmeister "I don't dare imagine what the future will be without me as dictator, I'll leave the horror stories to Stephen King."

Now, learn to play the game from beginning to end without cheating whatsoever. You can't tell me that you've already played all classes through the whole game without cheating. Cheats cheat whenever possible because they don't have the patience or the confidence to follow the laid out rules and gameplay. That's why they have to pump themselves up and try to be better than everyone else. It's their only consolation. Have Fun!!

Okay, now if this individual's purpose is merely to have fun in SINGLE PLAYER, or play
multiplayer games with OTHER HACKED CHARACTERS ONLY...I guess I can understand this
person's dilema. However, the needs of many outnumbered the needs of the few.
DiabloTrainer took advantage of a security breach abused by a lot of people...a breach
which should NOT have been there to begin with. Granted, hacking is hacking and
everyone should probably be allowed to hack ONLY the software they purchased and use it
for PRIVATE (ie: playing by themselves, no selling, no copying, no bugging other people,
etc.) purposes only. But when they start bothering other people, this becomes a
different issue. This issue became big enough that the patch was DEMANDED by the
majority of the people who just want to play, not hack. After all, they DID have a
right to play and not get killed repeatedly by some Lev 50 player who couldn't possibly
die...
Don't blame the people who made the patch...blame the people who made the patch
necessary for an honest multi-player game.
Norm ( Lev 26 Warrior...and still going )

Here's what you do.
Deinstall Diablo (control panel, add/remove programs), just remember to
save your character files.
Now, re-install from the CD. That'll put you back to V1.0, and you can
cheat to your heart's content, in private. You have a choice: cheat in
private, or play by the rules in public. Believe it or not, but there
are honest people out here who welcome this. Now I know that when I
meet folks, and trade with them on battle.net, I can be far more
confident that the stuff is legitimate. Also, as long as I stay in
town, I'm not gonna get killed.
FWIW, Kevin Lambert's Diablo Backup still works, so I can keep my
character safe, which suits me just fine. I can't *MODIFY* him, which
also suits me fine. However I have a backup in case of catastrophe.
If you can't play without cheating, that's fine: there's no place for
you on battle.net in that case. If you can't stand the heat, leave the
kitchen. Just quit whining.

Not that I don't fully support the patch, and am happy that cheating is now next to impossible... but the Quake cd was encrypted too .. anything is possible. I dont think they will. The patch makes it so you can hack the memory at all, which is how enigmas worked while you were still playing. I know a program that still just lets you back up and restore. I suppose people could have duped with it if a friend was on also, but not now. I just wish they had made it this way in the first place. I was playing with friends and having a blast until my friends started duping. It sucked then cause I did not want to cheat and ruin the challenge the game still had. My friends duped exlirs, and soon like the best junk. So I kinda quit playing with them since they were all like way outclassing me and doing okay on hell diff in hell ( I am on my second non cheat 35 level rogue, the first one got mana raped by shrines so I started all over. I finally have like 205 ac.. my all time high from armor I bought as grizzeys. I never traded for stuff either since it is all duped, now I am glad i did not with this patch. I have a legitimate non duped winforce even. I have yet to have a zodiac item since I have never seen one in the game.. playing countless times.) Dave

If you've beaten the game multiple times maybe it's time to find another game. There's A LOT of people, including myself who would appreciate it. If the game is not any fun unless you cheat your just ruining it for other people. The patch sucks. Frankly, I'm not surprised you find the game a bit dull, especially after you also posted: >"The patch doesn't eliminate cheating for shit. Sure no more Town Kill >or Monsterkill (whatever the hell that is), but I took a hacked >character onto battle.net, no problem. He was level 42, max >resistance to everything and the had best equipment the game has to >offer, not to mention all spells were maxed. So who cares? I think >the point of the patch was more to correct some bugs in the game than >to deal with cheaters." Playing with a hacked character, who has all the benefits of the game, IS BORING - one of the best things about the game, about ANY game, is the thrill of discovery and the challenge of beating the game - if you (a) have access to all the powerful items, and therefore have nothing to discover or learn about the game, and (b) have an artificially superpowerful character, and therefore are denying yourself any challenge - No wonder the game seems dull to you - ANY game would under such circumstances. It would be like Playing War2, and having unlimited resources, infinitely powerful and numerous armies, or playing Quake only in God mode, it might be fun for an hour or two, but that's about it. Replayability - defeat the game in single player mode - using one or more characters. Defeat the game in multiplayer, with or without other players (but only with those who don't cheat), using all 3 characters, in normal, nightmare and hell mode. If you've done all that, you've gotten 200 hours out of the game - far more than the average piece of schlock produced these days. Desslock
