Whenever a new character is created, he should have a unique ID. This ID can be 32-bit (4 bytes) so we can have about 2^32 characters which I'm sure its more than enough. Each ID should then have a checksum such that when hacked, would cause the checksum to be uneven. These checksums and IDs would total not more than 8 bytes and I'm sure Blizzard has more than enough space to store 8 bytes X the number of people out there now. I'm sure there is a flaw somewhere on the above but Blizzard's excuse of not putting the database inside their own server was what started all these in the first place. As long as the data is small per player character, It could be done even with we have one million people playing. For a 8 byte-player, one million would only be a measely 8 Mbyte (approx.)
