Nope. The 911 Commission was clearly advised by the FBI that the motivation behind the attacks of September 11th, were due to US pro-israel foreign policy, and the ongoing israel / Palestine conflict. This comment did not make it into the official public release of the findings. WHAT MOTIVATED THE 9/11 HIJACKERS TO ATTACK THE U.S.? US foreign policy bias for Israel in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and US government support for other oppressive regimes in the Middle East. The 911 Commission held its twelfth and final public hearing on June 16 - 17, 2004, in Washington DC. On June 16, the Commission heard testimony from top law enforcement and intelligence experts on al Qaeda and the 911 plot. It was at this hearing that the question "What motivated them to do it?" was finally asked. Lee Hamilton September 11 Commission Vice Chair (D) I'm interested in the question of motivation of these hijackers, and my question is really directed to the agents- "What have you found out about why these men did what they did? What motivated them to do it?" James Fitzgerald FBI Agent I believe they feel a sense of outrage against the United States. They identify with the Palestinian problem, they identify with people who oppose repressive regimes, and I believe they tend to focus their anger on the United States. (This testimony was kept out of the 9/11 Commission Report and no recommendation was given to address the main motive for the 9/11 attacks.) After the report was issued, the ten commissioners formed the "911 Public Discourse Project". At the August 2, 2005 session on foreign policy, Lee Hamilton quickly tries to silence someone who asks why the US support for Israel isn't being addressed. >From a Gallery Member The Gorilla in the Room is US support for Israel. "By his own account, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed's animus toward the United States stemmed not from his experiences there as a student, but rather from his violent disagreement with U.S. foreign policy favouring Israel". Pl 47, 9/11 Commission Report. "The Cause of the September 11 attacks .. The conflict between Israel and Palestine was always at the heart. "It's central', he said. "It's not the only thing, but it's the central thing." P248 A Pretext to a War. This was sensitive ground, "Hamilton and Kean say in their new book, "Without Precedent: The Inside Story of the 9/11 Commission," and some commissioners worried "listing U.S. support for Israel as a root cause of al Qaeda's opposition to the United States indicated that the United States should reassess that policy." Hamilton and Kean were promoting their book ant dook some questin outside NBc Studios in Washington D.C. in August of 2006. Sam Husseini, of the Institute for Public Accuracy asked about US foreign policy supporting Israel: "Aren't we planting the seeds of further terrorism? Aren't we putting out the fire with gasoline here? And you can do all the security measures, all the law enforcement, but if that [US Foreign Policy favouring Israel] continues isn't that a fundamental argument....... Hamilton "Foreign policy gets very complicated. When you take certain actions to support a friend, the security of Israel, as we did, it has consequences. No doubt about it." "America's policy choices have consequences." P376, 911 Commission Report. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2034713205135636687&q=911+commission+public+hearing >
