The example you gave is obviously not relevant. For example, it requires two 
or more points to be defined; Bush only gave a single place (Iran) in the 
quote above. Clearly he meant one of the uses of "axis" that requires only a 
single point, "the centre about which something revolves" seems directly 
relevant - the centre is Iran, and the thing is terrorism. It couldn't be 
one of the definitions that requires two points, as he only gave one point.

I think you mean "revolves" not "rotates". Are you now going to play some 
bullshit game about how how there is some meaning of the word "revolves" 
that is inconsistent with the definition? Or do you recognise that both 
revolves has meanings other than the astronomical one?

May or may not be true, but is a perfectly reasonable opinion to hold.
