Well, back in the day I used what referred to itself as a trainer to
save the items as file, then loaded the items onto whatever character I
preferred them on.  Of course that would allow you to duplicate items
too.

According to the old backup, it was Draven's Diablo Trainer Addon v1.77,
the file is Dhack.exe.

Hrm, also seem to have another one called DIE.exe  Titled "Diablo Item
Editor by CutiX" when running.  Don't have any recollection of this one.

And another app called trader.exe, which seems to be another save file
editor allowing import/export of items - calls itself "The Trader" and
if I recall correctly, you could only import and item to replace an
existing item (although you could import an armor into a potion and the
like.)

They're all pretty small, so If you like I can rar em up and mail em to
you directly if you can't locate them any other way.

Hrm, also seem to have a "Raymond's Diablo Trainer" as well, which says
it only works on Diablo 1.4, 1.4 and Hellfire.


I seem to have the original zip archives for all of these if you'd like
them.
