Hmm, this much talked about patch is looking more and more like vaporware everyday. Blizzard doesn't even bother to update their website with any status info about it. Do I blame Blizzard? You bet I do. Do I blame them entirely? No, of course not. But anybody who knows anything about software knows that although it is impossible to make something completely secure from hacking/cheating, it is also possible to do a MUCH better job than Blizzard did; and to do it without mucking around in the Registery and other places. >PS - Play with friends in passworded games and you won't have to worry >about the cheaters. True- but then what is the point of battle.net? It serves no purpose whatsoever. They could have simply provided direct IP support such as HOMM2 does and we could play via the net with people we know. The only sensible purpose of battle.net is to provide a forum where we can meet new people to play games with. But Blizzard did nothing serious to prevent the chaos on battle.net. They didn't even provide a way to have games free from pkilling for crying out loud (yea, that thread's been discussed to death, but the result is still the same, they could have made it possible to have games where you could elect to be safe from pkilling and they chose not to). Personally, I can see only two possible explanations for why Blizzard created battle.net and Diablo like they did: a) The principals are philosophically anarchists and have an agenda to promote social chaos or b) They are not very competent. I'm sure that other possible explanations exist, but they do not readily come to mind. Just saying, "quit complaining, it's free" is not going to cut it. In the first place, everybody knows that it's no more "free" than the "free" toiletries you get in a hotel room. It's all built into the price of the product (or will eventually be covered by advertising in the upper right corner). In the second place, Blizzard is trying to make b.net their flagship- well, so far it is a smelly old garbage barge.
