Come on, he posted to fairly sensible newsgroups where talk of Bill Gates is fairly regular. Not all of them were sensible. I know this, please don't point out the soc.russian group. Judging solely from the response I have seen, there has been generally good reaction to his post. Darth Vader

Although I do not feel that freedom of speech should be impaired by preventing people from speeking their minds on the newsgroups, there is a certain amount to etiquette to follow. Almost any newsgroup FAQ/etiquette note will ask that you not post non-related articles. There is a certain sense of 'manners here'. If someone was talking too loud in a movie theater or other public place, I think it would be perfectly acceptible to ask them to 'be quiet/shut up'. If so many people want to read about Bill Gates baby then start a new newsgroup. I for one don't give a rat's ass.

If you don't want to know, then don't read it. If it's in your way, use another news reader, so you can select what to download and what not. I saw some suggestions that made me laugh. Though not specifically a Gates- of MS-hater, I liked it. have fun! peter p.hup...@akam.nl

It's like if you don't like whats on TV don't watch it. Your moaning and gretching about what he does is almost as anoying as what he does. Yes, the massive cross posting is completely out of line. People read
newsgroups
to find info about their systems or their interrests, not to read jokes about
Bill Gates' baby's name. If we wanted to see that then we would probably be
following one of the already existing jokes newsgroups.

I'm tired of this kind of lame-ass logic that defends obnoxious spammers. I suppose if some telemarketers kept interrupting you during dinner and the early evening, you would say, "I don't mind - if I don't want to know, I'll just hang up"? There's a difference between someone's expressing opinions and being in your face. > I saw some suggestions that made me laugh. Though not specifically a > Gates- of MS-hater, I liked it. Whoopie. Before I get any e-mails opinting this out to me, I *KNOW* I'm cross-posting. At this point, I don't care. Everyone else is doing it.
