The above is true, given a limited number of apps. However, Wordperfect 5.1, Lotus 1-2-3, and dBase 3, all for DOS, are very fast after the person who is using them learns the keystrokes. These are the apps that are prevalent is business today. Many companies are using MS Windows, but many more are still in DOS-land. (You're using a *286*?!) Give a novice MS Win apps, and they'll be faster with them, but give them DOS apps, and train them, and they'll be much faster. (Statistics and my own experience back this up.) >Wake up and realize that the computer world is not the private domain of >computer nerds anymore. If the command-line interface were as great as >you claim, there would be no Windoze, and Apple would be bankrupt. Once again, well-trained workers return the cost of training in their work. These workers are using a command-line OS, but them only commands they need to type from the DOS prompt are 'wp', '123', and 'dbase'. -- The System has detected an Internal Processing Error in module REALITY.SYS. Please shut down your universe and reboot.

However, if you check newsrooms -- which are ALL heavy-duty typing factories (even if they make it all up, the reporters still gotta type it in) you'll find that the system of choice is Word for WINDOWS. In fact, it's almost impossible to not know how to use it AND be a newspaper person at the same time. Don from Dover
