I just got a new mouse (microsoft sidewinder
http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/gaming/productdetails.aspx?pid=100
Circuit City has a $30 rebate for it now) and after trying a couple games,
fired up an old D2X install (I was one of the rare Descent-Mousers) which I
don't think I've touched for a couple years, and certainly not since
upgrading to a dualcore+7900gtx. It fired right up, cutscenes and all
without a hiccup, and I played through a couple levels. What a blast. I'd
forgotten how good it was, and plan to finish it again! A couple things
need tweaking, the cutscenes are dark, and I did not attempt cdmusic. My
new dvd drive doesn't have a separate cdaudio connector and I don't know if
the cdaudio will play without it.

BTW, I notice there's a D2X-XL with high-res models and a mention of
re-rendered high-detail cutscenes over at http://www.descent2.de/index.html
Is D2X-XL the best port or is there another project people prefer?
