Descent 2 running in Windows 2000 or XP? Can't install

As you know, D2 won't install in anything but Windows 95.

There is news of patches and other things... but I can't find anywhere with
active links.  They all are DEAD.  Including the Interplay website.

Anyone know how to do this, and where the patches might actually be?

Also, can I ever install the Windows version or must one run the DOS version
to run in Windows 2000/XP?

You have to wait in line, but it's better than nothing.

Have you tried Compatability mode?  Alternativly, you can install the
dos version anyway, and grab a copy of D2X.

You can try D2X-XL (http://www.descent2.de) or D2X-Rebirth.

Apparently my old message never made it to the newsgroup.

Anyway, I'd found that D2X-rebirth seems to work, but D2X-XL didn't.

I also tried an OpenGL version but the textures didn't work right.
