Getting Invalid CD-Rom error on Windows XP:
tried different DVD drive - Result: Invalid CD-Rom error
tried updating windows - Result: Invalid CD-Rom error
tried http://www.descent-3.com/
Descent3 disk is not damaged
I am using the right Descent3 CD
A forum mentioned a NO CD option, but I can't get any information about
it.
Does anyone know about this?

Worked fine with my D3 on XP SP2 (but then, I had no problems with the cd before the NoCD patch either ie it ran fine, but reqd the CD in each time) gluk LEF http://www.descent3.com/4_downloads.html

Thought I'd toss this in for the google types. Before patching to the no cd version, I found I could only run the program on the secondary master cd position, which used to be a fairly common issue way back when. Bought D3 a few years ago, just loading it up now ;) Good stuff.
