Friendly bots in Descent3?

I'm playing through Descent 3 for the first time,
and as I am shooting a bunch of robots,  one of
the (not the guidebot) says, "stop, if you don't
shoot I won't do anything, I'm not like the others"
Are some of the bots supposed to be neutral/helpful?

Yes, they're supposed to be friendly.

However, they're still hostile towards the player for some reason.  The
most notable example would be Mission 6, where you get a penalty for
attacking some "neutral/friendly" that shoot at the player.  The robot you
found on Mission 13 would be the other case.
