Ok, I'm stuck!

I'm in level 18 of Descent II. I'm at the part where I can't enter the yellow door. The key is on the other side of the door and if I turn the corner and go up a few inches I can see the other side of the door (where I can see the key) thru this maize door. If I fire thru the maize door the door on the other side will open but I can't get back around to the door before it closes! Argh!
