Has anyone got them to work in xp?  I get various error msgs such as <no cd>
in d3 when it is loaded in the drive.  d1 or 2 don't work at all.

Have you tried d1x or d2x?  (http://icculus.org/d2x/, I don't remember where
d1x is)
