Descent 1 running speed and Descent 1, 2 and 3 mouse interface

Hi,

I've got a problem running Descent on my Athlon XP 1800+. It's going much
too fast! Well, actually, some things go much to fast. It fires faster,
spins faster, but accels en decells the same. Even in multiplayergames, my
ship bounces and fires much faster then the ones of players with slower
machines. Is there a fix for this?

I've got another question about Descent 1, 2 and 3, about the mouse
interface. Descent 1 and 2 have the problem that even on the fastest
setting, the mousespeed is slooooooowwww. Is this fixable?
And in Descent 3, when the mouse is set to "mouselook", even on the lowest
sensitivity, it goes faaaaaaaaaaaaaaasssssssssttttttt. A cm from the mouse
spins me around 3 times. Again, is this fixable?

TIA

Get this (there are different sound engine versions)
http://d1x.warpcore.org/

The newest builds of D1X are here
http://reprehensible.net/~donut/d1x/

Use the menu options to set the framerate to 35fps, which was the original
design framerate. That should do it :)

For Descent2, http://icculus.org/d2x/

I'll have a go at it. But the D2x is still unstable is it not?

Is it? I've been using it for a few weeks on my new 2GHz laptop, and
the only problem I've seen is that one time after quitting the game
the screen resoluition stayed at the game's setting, had to manually
reset to normal.

Well, that's what the site said.

But that still leaves Descent 3. Descent 3 has a very nice atomosphere, but
I can't play it very well because of the mouse. In mouselook the mouse goes
too fast and ik flightsim mode the mouse is inverted. I hate inverted
mouse. I played it a while and when I got back to windows I kept moving the
cursor in the wrong direction. How can I disable inverted Y-axis?

TIA

The following is a note for D2X about updating the dlls for it. It works
great for me. I haven't tried Descent3 lately, you might ask on

I had that exact problem on my WinXP box with CygWin compiling d2x, both
0.2.0 and 0.2.4 versions. It went away when I downloaded and installed the
latest SDL.DLL binary for win32 from libsdl.org. I replaced every copy of
the DLL I had on my hard drive. I didn't try that initially because
compiling d2x seems to require having the SDL source code with its
sdl-config script. I kept the SDL source so I can re-compile d2x, but I use
the binary distribution of SDL.DLL.

I also had the same problem of only being able to run d2x-sdl.exe once
before having to reboot. And it crashed a LOT. The new DLL fixed that too.

I've got it running (d2x), with the new SDL lib. I'm not sure, but it still
seems like the sound is lagging a bit. And I'm having problems displaying
the movies.

Another thing that's quite anoying is that I can't see the guide-bot
interface when I press shift-F4. It responds to commands, I just can't see
what I'm doing. Anyone else suffering from this?

You can in fact invert the mouse in D3's flightsim mode:

Main Menu -> Options -> Configure -> Joy/Mouse -> Pitch -> Invert (Y/N)

Good luck!

Can that be done in D3? I must be blind then. I'll check it out.

An update: I found the controls, the invert option was hidden behind a
question mark. I thought that was help. Anyway, now I can play!. I hope I
won't get stuck where I got stuck years ago. I'll cross that bridge when I
come to it :)
