D3 "Invalid CD" error message - help!

Been a while since I played Descent3 - I have Win2k now and I'm having problem with "Invalid Cd" error message, regardless of which cd drive the cd is in. I seem to remember a "nocd" patch that was used to circumvent this - or perhaps it was a command line switch. Help?
