-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Being a long time Descent keyboard player, and having heard so many good things about joysticks, I decided to go out and get one. The one I purchased was the F-15E Eagle because it appeared to have the most features and was the best built one that I could find. (The Sidewinder pro seemed a bit flimsy) When I first plugged it in and fired up Descent, I was a little bit disappointed... naturally I used it as is for rotation, while maintaining my dedicatted strafing keys on the keyboard. At first I couldn't really see any advantage to it because it was reacting just like the arrow keys, but after a few hours of using it I found that even the most suttle movements were picked up and that I could be a little more 'creative' with my flying. The one big advantage being that you can decide to turn at the rate you want at, unlike the arrows key which start you rotating at full speed. (Experienced keyboard players know that you can tap the keys a couple times to align your target, thereby rotating more 'slowly'...) For me the keyboard is still a bit more accurate then the joystick, i.e. I can get myself pointed somewhere faster, but I think that with practice the joystick solution will be much better. It's also real nice to have the afterburner (rear button), missle button (top left) and missle toggle (middle left) buttons all under my fingertips. In effect I've now have a few extra options available to me now that a few fingers are freed from the arrow keys, my hand takes care of that now. I set the castle-down to flare, castle-left to 'forward' (which I don't use) and the up and right to some function key macros... the hat switch is configured for strafing but I don't use that, it's junk. You can only strafe in one direction at a time, and besides it would require another finger :) I use the keyboard for strafing (w-a-s-d) and f-v for forward reverse. I'd be interesting in hearing how others have their system configured. Also, I'd like to hear from those who have used the SpaceAvenger2000(sp?) I have experience with using Spaceballs in VR experiences (Sense8 WTK, Logitech Magellan) I'm just curious how well it works with Descent. Hey Parallax, any chance of adding Magellan support? That would be real nifty, it's a great serial input device. - -- -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: 2.6.2 iQEVAwUBMOn1igO8sT3NuDlpAQHm1Qf9ESUB5Y++ZXQJco2uGYfAYi8f1cfryNzQ JTfCPvpUJykLpxHDn8IRd7lqXxxwbZUD69A/1xBVKF9QywkPyVzMZA8ZziFVvxS8 aA5tMV485Sq5c+BjRO0OjYS4jFncVd8DNTjfTeiH6g35WvKhQK2KsmgVmpldyJaa lRkNRFmO5b0SSyo7IvjoAL94l8d2r25QKJfvt/29Vn0s8Xxk/x6u+OxGiP/v2snv SLCIg8C1SIuO3NVDRa6E6L1hm3/9PWGLGgjGMHnZgN+FqCYp0HLshFvKT10Na29I nUqwUjk5AnKXJtr8D2/UTAuzqgbrM94Ua7RrkssxOiVXQT87Nt4img== =CB8F -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

I have an F15e Talon. Here's my setup:
Axis X1: Pitch up/down
Axis Y1: Turn left/right
Castle switch: up - slide up, down - slide down, right - bank right,
left - bank left
Buttons: 1 - primary weapon
2 - secondary weapon
3 - flare
4 - bomb
I use the arrow keys on the keyboard for sliding left/right, and
forward/reverse movement.
How did you get the hat switch to work? I could configure mine, but while
actually playing it doesn't do anything.
