Okay, like most Problem Dos games, if you turn off sound support for the game Descent and Kali works perfectly. (Sarcastically)Not having sound does have it's advantages, you don't hear the other guy blasting the crap out of you. my command line went like this: descent -dynamicsockets -lowmem -nosound -nomusic use the -lowmem option if you have an ISA video card. P.S. Joined a big game (5 people) and Warp couldn't handle that either and killed the session. Your results may vary if you have a fast Pentium. I'm using an Overdrive DX4-100. Anyone got a workaround for this? P.P.S. I am running my SB16 SCSI-2 with the new SB drivers from Creative.

Have you tried Kali/2 (Kali for OS/2 1.2w1)? You don't need ppp.zip etc...you just need to install the internet utilities that come with Warp. Do you have a set blaster= statement in your autoexec.bat? Descent (with full sound) runs fine here. Swammy

Hi James >Anyone got a workaround for this? You're not too clear about the problem but I gather Descent locks up when you play over Kali. I've had my fair share of crashes but I've been told it's because of lost packets due to netlag. Not much you can do about it except maybe get a direct connection (scrap that idea) or, for the average joe, never play with more than 2 other players. I often crash within 2 minutes of play when doing a 4 player game. Very annoying. One option I have yet to try out though is running my game without any memory managers loaded. It should solve the problem... so I've been told. Regarding Warp, how do you get your sound drivers (SB16 ASP) working properly in a dos window. Sounds in Descent seem to be going great for about 5-10 minutes into the game. Then they stop altogether. I have to close the window and restart Descent for sounds to come back. What gives? I'm running all this on a dx4 100, 16megs ram, mach 64 2megs dram, in dos 6.22 Hope this helps... ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Marc-Andre Renaud Internet Adress: barb...@qbc.clic.net Le/On 17-12-1995, a/at 11:38 CLICNET TELECOMMUNICATIONS INC VILLE DE QUEBEC CITY QC CANADA Voix/Voice: (418) 849-9884 ou/or 849-9430 -----------------------------------------------------------------------

Uh. Negative. If you should find a solution to your crashes, please
let me know. I've tweeked and tweeked since version 1.2k was
released, and have had only moderate results. The crashes slowed a
bit after putting in STACKS=9,256 back into my CONFIG.SYS file. The
last thing under that seemed to really help was removing all my SCSI
drivers (loosing CD of course) and removing SMARTDRV.EXE from the
AUTOEXEC.BAT file. Actually I didn't remove them, I just used
conditional jumps. I've only tested the removal of SMARTDRV for two
nights, and so far, I've only crashed D2. One thing of interest is
that I also have a SB16 with ASP. I'm wondering if the SB16 has
anything to do with it?

Maybe this is a stupid question, but do you have the safemode switch set in your kali.cfg file? I was locking up with 1.2k and pppshare also, and setting safemode fixed it for me. Rainman

there is a Kali/2 in alpha now, and it works very well! I've played descent and the descent 2 demo with no problems... sound works great and I can play in a 6 player game well with my 14.4k... please don't ask me about getting this, but you can email Jay Cotton about it. --------> OS/2 Warp! vlady w...@nerc1.nerc.com -------------------> . <-
