It seems that many of the elements in Descent are references to obscure aspects of shows, stories, or songs. I've seen meanings posted for Guile, Gabba Gabba Hey, Racerx, and perhaps Mitzi. "BIGRED" refers to the mega missile. And "AHIMSA" refers to a Hindu doctrine of nonviolence against animals. Do Twilight and Scourge mean anything (besides being the callsigns of various Parallax and Interplay guys, who shall remain nameless)? And who or what is Farmer Joe? Is he related to the Dirty Cheeseman in any way? (a slightly facetious post)

I'm tempted to think that 'Twilight' refers to the closing theme song
of one episode of my favorite japanese animation series: Bubblegum Crisis.
However, that would be too big a coincidence.
Let me post a summary of what I think the codes refer to tho:
Gabbagabbahey - Someone posted this. What was it? From DEVO or some
Firesign Theater thing?
Guile - This is the name of a character from the Street Fighter
2 series of arcade games.
RacerX - This is the name of a character from the cartoon series
"Speed Racer," seen occasionally on MTV.
Bigred - The gum? Maybe it refers to the Megamissle?
Ahimsa - The Hindu doctrine of nonviolence to your enemies.
(Popularized by Gandhi?)
Bruin - The IRC nick of the FAQ maintainer for alt.games.descent.
Buggin - This is kind of a description of what it does, I think.
Speculation:
Scourge - Does this seem vaguely X-men to anybody?
Twilight - Comes from the closing theme of Bubblegum Crisis #4?
Clueless:
Mitzi - Who is she and what does she have to do with keys?
Farmerjoe - ??????

Try 'bigred.'

Farmer_Joe is the callsign Mike used during developement. I think he chose it because he figured the sheer width of it would crash the callsign code. Evil, mischeveous people sometimes like to break other people's code for fun :) Maybe there was some other reason, though. John Slagel Parallax Software
