I am considering purchasing a Logitech Wingman Extreme stick. If anyone has used this stick with Descent then 1) is it a good stick to use & 2) can you use the hat switch to do sliding? I do have the full version of Descent and it says that the Wingman is supported as a Thrustmaster FCS - is this true in practice? Thanks in advance for any replies/comments Hywel PS - apologies if this has already been discussed - My news server has only just logged on to this group.

Unfortunately, it is not nearly as robust, and several people (including myself) have had breakages of either the trigger switch or the hat switch. Logitech replaced mine fairly promptly when my hat switch broke. >2) can you use the hat switch to do sliding? You most certainly can. Also, unlike the CH Flightstick, you can actually use all the buttons at the same time as the hat. This gives you a big advantage, since you can slide, turn, and shoot all at the same time (and thus execute the famous "Doom circle of death" move). >I do have the full version of Descent and it says that the Wingman >is supported as a Thrustmaster FCS - is this true in practice? I got one of these at the weekend and it really is great- already improved my scores and hits etc. I will just have to be a bit gentle on the hat switch as people say this can break! Thanks to everyone who replied either here or via e-mail. All the replies were very enthusiastic about this stick. Thanks again Hywel.

I think it is best to use the mouse as described in the FAQ. If you gain skill with the mouse and keyboard you can play on any computer but if you rely on a joystick you are limited to that computer and the attached joystick. Have you heard about the Spaceball Avenger from Spacetec IMC? Its a fully continous-motion 3D PC Game Controller. Check out the WEB site "http://web.spacetec.com/" for more info or email me for a FAQ sheet. Later.

I know this to be at least partly true in DOOM. Besides, if you plan to play someone in Descent with a different computer, generally the only reason you couldn't bring and use your own joystick is if the other computer didn't have a sound/joystick port.
