Does using cheats set score=0 for good??

Ok, OK, I admit using the cheats to get thru L7. Now, every time
I hit a robot my score flashes "Cheater" and awards 0 pts - even tho
I'm no longer using the cheats. Is this just the way the Registered
Descent works? Or is there a way to get pts back?
