need help loading update for descent 3

Hi,

Please help!

Had descent 3 for a long time on computer with ME,

Now have a computer with XP,  loaded Descent 3 but when I try to do the auto
update for  patch 1.4
I get a box saying............now connecting to the descent 3 patch
server.........Please wait..........But nothing happens.

When I try going to the download page on descent.com  for the patch I
receive this message

.......old file not found.  However, a file of the same name was found,  no
update done since file contents do not match........

I have a DSL connection, Does that make a difference?

Would be forever grateful if some one could help
