DWANGO v2.0 - The DOOM Wide-Area Network Game Organization!
DWANGO is a revolutionary, new way to play games. It's all about
networking and playing other people all around the world, no matter where
they are. You can chat with each other, create teams, join teams and jump
into any DOOM, DOOM2 or HERETIC world you want -- either in DeathMatch or
in Co-operative mode.
The problem common to networking computer games is that the other people
that you want to play might not want to play at the exact same time that
you do. Or, you might get tired of beating the same old person time
after time because you don't know anyone else in your area with the same
DOOM problem that you have. With DWANGO, you get DeathMatch-On-Command!
Just dial up and challenge someone to a match -- even if it's 3:00 in the
morning!
IMPORTANT NOTE: Since DWANGO is a very new service, you may need to dial
a long-distance number to access it. The area codes that currently have
a Dwango Server are 206, 214, 408, 415 and 713. If you can't afford the
charges (or don't WANT to), please don't run DWANGO. If you're under 18,
please get your parent's permission before you start racking up long-
distance bills-from-hell. Otherwise, if you're an avid MoDOOMer, you'll
appreciate the convenience of DWANGO. You will get a half-hour of FREE
time on the server, but to continue using DWANGO, you will need to enter
your credit card information in the Billing section and incur a $20 start-
up fee. Then you will need to buy time, which you can choose in the
Billing section.
DWANGO SERVERS TO DATE (95MAR03):
Dallas, TX (214) 686-8783
Houston, TX (713) 467-0049
San Francisco, CA (415) 757-6911
San Jose, CA (408) 522-7373
Seattle, WA (206) 454-0090
40 new sites are planned world wide, and the next stops are Los Angeles,
Oakland and Chicago!
To get started, it's easy. Just type DWANGO in your DOOM, DOOM2 or
HERETIC directory. Make sure that you run DWANGO from the directory of
the game you want to play, or DWANGO won't have any idea which game
you're using. The best way of running DWANGO is to copy all DWANGO-
related files into the game directory -- there's DWANGO.EXE, DWANGO.STR
and DWANGO.TXT. Then, run DWANGO from there.
You can also download the latest front-end for Dwango via the World Wide
Web: http://www/hti.net/dwango/welcome.html
The Dwango Software is also included with the latest patches (upgrades)
for Doom 1, Doom 2, and Heretic. These patches can be found at ftp.
idsoftware.com, Software Creations BBS (508) 368-7036, Doom Mania BBS
(317) 662-8842, and just about every other BBS in the world! The latest
patches to date for these games are Doom 1 v1.9, Doom 2 v1.9, and Heretic
v1.0.
You may have to edit the phone number in the DWANGO.CFG file to match one
of the phone numbers above that you wish to use!
For more information, you can call 1-800-2DWANGO (VOICE!), or 1-800-239-
2646 (VOICE!).
DWANGO is compatible with DOOM, DOOM2 and HERETIC, and 11 (YES, ELEVEN)
new games are being worked on to get them onto Dwango! Games like Rise
of the Triad, Descent and others! Try it for yourself!
