I was playing Descent for a while, and I got to level 6 on Insane -- and
the enemy AI at the high levels is incredible! However, there are a few
enemy behaviors that I think I have seen, but I'm not sure of... so I'm
posting what I think I have seen in the hopes that other people will add
to and correct my list. Of course, any responses from Parallax would be
greatly appreciated.
Behaviors everyone has seen:
* dodging
* pursuing
Behaviors I know I've seen:
* taking cover after firing
* popping out from cover, firing, and popping back (repeatedly)
Behaviors I think I've seen:
* spontaneously attacking (without having seen me)
* retreat
* panic (several times, I have seen (and heard) a nearly dead enemy
crash into a wall trying to avoid my shots)
Behaviors I might have seen, once: ;-)
* evasive maneuvers against the vulcan cannon
* leading shots
* teamwork (i.e. two enemies, initially together, will split up
and attack from opposite sides)
* avoiding homing missles by running back and around a corner
BTW, do enemy shots hurt other enemies (and themselves)? I can't recall
every seeing it happen, but I *know* that the good people at Parallax
wouldn't make a game where enemy shots didn't hurt other enemies -- and
if they did, they'd fix it (hint, hint). :-) Note that I'm not asking
for enemies to fight each other as in Doom, which would be unrealistic
in the Descent scenario -- I just want enemies to have to watch out for
each other.
