Hi

I did read some of the discussions on this NG regarding Joysticks.

The conclusion:

The ultimate solution for Descent is 6DOF (6 Degrees Of Freedom
(XYZ,ABC)) devices like the Magellan SpaceMouse from LogiCAD3D.
Nothing can be compared to that.
It's normal use, is for expensive 3D-CAD systems, and it's priced about
400 USD. However the Cyberpuck is a cheaper alternative, but it's still a
6DOF device, and this is what really matters.

It allows for interactive motion control of 3D graphic objects in
(simultaneously) up to 6 degrees of freedom (zoom, pan and rotate in one
handle). Thus for the rapidly increasing number of interactive 3D-
graphics applications Magellan/SPACE MOUSE meets the steadily growing
need for an ingeniously simple input device.

In fact Descent is one of the very few games which can utilize 6DOF
devices.
