I don't know about some of the other sticks out there but for the Mousestick II I have the solution. There is a huge round dial on the bottom of the base of the unit. Spin it in one direction and it tightens the stick, the other direction loosens it. Once you get it loose enough you can pull the stick back without having the base come off the table. If this is not an option on your joystick then I suggest it's time to pull out some really sticky tape and attach the thing physically. Clint
