This little story gets my vote for favorite (and funniest) move of
all, and the dumbest tactic by an opponent. I was playing a Descent
deathmatch with a good friend of mine who was quite prone to stage
ambushes. He would hide by doors, in shadows, in secret rooms, etc,
waiting to get a shot or two in. Well, on one level he staged an ambush
in a room which (he thought) had only one entrance - from above. I don't
know how he missed it, but there was another door in the far corner, which
I happened to fly through. I see my bud with his ship pointed skyward
just beside this upper entrance, just sitting there. I fly over beside him
and open up a dialogue:
Me: "Sean, what are you doing?"
Sean: "Waiting..."
Me: "For what?"
Sean: "You!"
Me: "Sean, I'm right beside you..."
Sean: "Yeah, right."
Me: Hold down the quad laser and homing missile buttons!
This was beyond fun, and the confused messages that came in after Sean
"resurrected" where the best! The moral of this story - check out the room
you play on laying an ambush in; your opponent might have already had the
same idea!
