Install C&C and then copy all files (in the root drive)except movies
and scores on the GDI cd onto your installed directory.
There will be a file called general.mix on you hardrive. Rename it to
Gegdi.mix (choose any 5 character name you like). Insert the NOD(2nd)
CD and copy the general.mix file from there. Rename this to Genod.mix
(again, any 5 character name you like). Then using a hex editor, edit
the game.dat file and search for 'GENERAL.MIX'. There are two instances
when it happens so when you reach the first position, edit it to say
x:GEGDI.MIX (where x is the drive where C&C is located) Continue
searching until you get to the 2nd instance and here type in x:GENOD.MIX
That's it. you won't get any sound or movies but who cares.

To run it in DOS:
Go to where it is c:\c&c>
At the prompt type this: c&c -cdc:\c&c
Then press Enter
(it'll look like this c:\c&c>c&c -cdc:\c&c)

To run it in Windows95:
Click Start\Settings\Taskbar
Then under 'Start Menu Programs' click 'Advanced'
You should now see the 'Exploring - Programs' window
Double click on 'Programs', then 'Westwood'
Right click on the Command & Conquer icon,
go down and click 'Properties'
In the new window click on the 'Shortcut' tab
Now you should see 'Target' with a box after it.
In the box it says something like:
C:\C&C\RUNGAME.EXE
Add a space and this after the above -cdc:\c&c
Now it should look like:
C:\C&C\RUNGAME.EXE -cdc:\c&c
Don't change the original, just add on ( -cdc:\c&c)
Click ok and get out of there.
Now it will run from the icon!

This isn't about stealing the game. Just being able to use it
on your portable...Westwood has put out the best game I've
ever played. They deserve the money!
