Just what computer games need - a little extra flesh and blood. The Wireplay multi-player games network is being developed to allow gamers to play against human opponents nationwide. Anyone with a modem & 486 (or higher) PC will be able to access the service. The software is free, and there is no monthly charge: all you pay is a special new national rate 2.5p a minute (i.e. ukp1.50 an hour) at evenings and weekends and 8.32p a minute (i.e. ukp5.87 an hour) during the day on weekdays. Wireplay allows you to play against friends, or to challenge complete strangers nationwide. There's also a paging service built in, so you can go off-line and wait for a challenger to come along. The service will soon allow the creation of on-line ladders, leagues and knock-out tournaments. Games available for the preliminary trials include Doom, Descent and Bridge - plans are also afoot to add a wide range of other games within the next few months. Keen gamers are now needed to help shape the whole service. To register for the trials (places are limited to only 1,500), see the wireplay home page: http://www.bt.com/home/wireplay

Come on cable telephone companies - hurry up and cable every town in Britain. Then we can have free internet time, and we can all play kali instead of this British Telecom conglomerate shit. If you live in the middle of nowhere with no chance at getting the internet for £0 per hour, then I gotta admit Wireplay is your best option. Shame. It'll cost yer. Most cable companies have found if you let people have free
local access and they use on-line services they never stop. Therefore
the calls are only free for voice calls. Sorry.

Free local access is the future. Cable companies can make a killing on subscriptions and shouldn`t need to charge for the call. Besides, the rate at which new cable companies are popping up they`ll have no choice but to offer free calls due to the massive competition. Whats to stop us using free voice calls for free data calls anyways?.. ...they gonna tap into the call, here the modem and block the call?....I don`t think so.

That means videotron-videotron calls are free. The Direct Connection is one of a few London based ISP's to have videotron lines. So? Free net, free kali, where has my life gone! Rob (Picasso on kali)
