Well, last night played a skirmish and the number of screen freezes was
absolutely unacceptable. Even opened another game and found the graphics to
suck.

Today to opened the box and found my graphics card running hotter than a
pistol!!! I mentioned in an earlier post that I received a "component
failure" error once while running Generals. Looks like my board probably
overheated during an earlier game. Generals probably taxes the graphics
such that once I start playing (very little freezing) it heats up to the
point it fails (constant freezing).

I left the side cover off the box and placed a small fan to blow on the
boards and played a Zero Hour game with nary a pause!

So, it looks my problem was hardware related. Time to go shopping for a new
ATI card!

If you find a card that will work without out leaving the case open and a
fan blowing let me know cause I'll sure go out and get one myself

I ended up doing exactly what you describe .... have left the side cover off
and running a fan into the cabinet. Game runs fine ... if I put the side
cover back on it seems to overheat (even with a fan blowing into the vents).
This thing must really tax the graphics chip, huh?
