Just reloaded C&C Generals on my PC and it is running SO SLOWLY. It used to
be ok last time I used it, not sure what's wrong now...? I don't have any
other apps/tasks running... This isn't the occasional slowdown, this is
constantly slow - looks like the little guys are running in slow motion!
Are there any obvious causes? (installed on a 2gz athlon with 1gb ram and
decent nvidia card)

Yep. Ive heard this one before. Ive actually got quite close to the same
equipment as yourself. I have a 9500pro card. Dont know what you got
though. Anyways, I see this argued in this ng and others. Anyways, mine
was solved by redoing my pc with the latest OmegaDrivers running instead of
the Ati ones. It runs like a dream. Yes, I did get those results before a
redoing of my pc. It was a matter of reloading the games again. Yes again,
it was a pain to do so. But, once I redid my pc, it is a dream come true.
I can sympathize with you. I hated the slow down stuff like I had HD
thrashing, not enough ram, other stuff running feeling. It simply does not
happen any more for me. It is the game it was supposed to be . Feel free
to email if you need specifics of my trials/tribulations.

Good luck,
sl

Got any anti-virus software?

I have had serious problems with Norton AV 2004 but if you goto the realtime
options, and add the generals folder into the exceptions list(ie it then
doesn't scan every file used by the game) this made most things run a lot
smoother for me.

Best of luck
