I have just purchased C&C generals zero hour and tried to install it, but it
wanted C&C Generals to be installed.  I purchased C&C Generals this ages ago
but had since uninstalled it (and now don't have the receipt or even
remember where I bought it so don't suggest I take it back).

So I tried to install C&C Generals again (it did work originally) but now it
gets halfway through the 2nd CD and complains that the USA06_final_00s.bik
file is unreadable.  Sure enough, if I try to extract it from data2.cab
winzip says the cab is corrupt.

Soooooo, not wanting to have to post the cd of to EA games for a replacement
(want to play NOW dammit!) is there somewhere (dodgy or not) I can download
data2.cab from?  or is there a way to 'fudge' the install to get zero
running (ie does it require the whole game to be installed or just some
files?)

Try cleaning the CD. Turn the water tap on low and rinse the data side off, then
dry it by wiping it with a soft cloth radially outwards from center to the edge.
You can also use toilet paper, but not tissue paper unless it is really soft and
of high quality. You'd be amazed how many problems this can fix. I've corrected
dozens of supposedly "broken" CDs in this way.
