"You have been defeated" That's the message I get after [trying] to play after 30 seconds or so. All my units are destroyed and the game ends. Now, I reckon this is an anti piracy feature but I can't figure out how to get around it. Oops, that's going to attract some flamers, let me explain why I'm not a pirate.... I bought the game the day it was released, I lent it to my dad after completing the single player missions and uninstalled it from my machine. He lost CD 2 so now HE can run it but I can't reinstall (a plot to keep the game for himself IMO). So, I have copied the Generals directory from his computer and also copied the reg keys and updated the key value that referenced the game location. I put CD 1 in my computer and start up the game, it all seems fine but I just can't play for longer than about 30 seconds. This is especially annoying as I've just bought Zero Hour and can't play it until this is working. Any ideas on how to fix/get around this? Obviously, excluding "buy another copy". Thanks, Treefrog

Alternativly use EA's rubbish replacement cd service which you'll need to pay for.

Hmm, nice idea but I'd like to avoid spending a day downloading a 600mb file only to find that it's actually a corrupt zip file which probably contained a [bad] porn movie anyway. Do you happen to know which reg key contains the Generals serial? I could enter it directly. There seems to be a serial on the back of the ZH manual. I'll try installing it and see if that sorts anything.

Well here's what I would do... Ask my friends if they got it and get a copy of the missing CD..

That would be assuming I had friends to ask. Actually, it turns out that a guy I know does have it. He said I can borrow it and use my serial key. Problem solved. Cheers All.

A tip, leave the cyberworld for a moment and take a walk, perhaps to your local pub ... ;-) Got this problem myself (not with friends, the explosion after 30 secs.) and made a repair of the game using only CD1 (I'm not sure if CD 2 was used too), after that it was ok. /Clant
