I have to agree with the point that cardinal modems suck... I also had a mvp288i and also had numerous problems with connecting and downloading... I couldn't download a 60k file without over 200 errors. I called Cardinal and on my 3rd day of waiting on hold ( not continous, 1st day I was on hold for over 2.5 hours before talking to a human being, day 2 I was on hold for over 1.5 hours before talking with a human being, and finally on day 3, .75 hours of listening to the pretty music and advertisements ) I finally was told that the modem need to be shipped back to the company for repair... After arriving at their tech center I called on the third day they had it ( Next day mail tracking system ) and talked to a tech rep saying that they were going to replace the modem as they could not discern what the problem was. I recieved my 'New' modem 4 days later and immediately installed it, much to my surprise none of the problems I had before were corrected. I still got crappy connects and butt loads of errors when downloading... Well, I sent the modem back to the dealer from which I bought it from and called a friend of mine... He was selling his USR 28.8 internal... I finally talked him down to 80 bucks for the 4 month old modem and am now using it without a single problem... In summary... "CARDINAL MODEMS SUCK SHIT!" Let the buyer beware. - Dunkin -
