Command & Conquer Generals problem.

My kids have a PIII 1.0g
ASUS V7100 MX400 64mb video card
400mb memory.
Windows 2000 SP4
DX9.0b

when playing the game the landscape keeps disappearing leaving a black
ground with just the buildings showing. this only happens when the
mouse is left hovering over buildings for the building labels to
appear and you are building something. however, when the building has
finished the landscape stays black!!!

the game is patched to the max.

any ideas?

Thanks
