OK nevermind, I have solved the problem.  I uninstalled the game and
re-installed it and now it works.

For some strange reason, I don't believe the installation completed
successfully the first time around.  (i.e. when I inserted a disc, a menu
would come up presenting the options 'install' , etc yet I was still able to
play the game).  Now the install has been replaced with 'play' and I am able
to continue on past mission 4 !! :)
