to which i reply:
first, thanks thanks thanks for useing the code
and also for describing you issues so well
first, you may want to go back and do the right arrow first, same mission,
same basic tactics, except the terrain is different, and you can run the
commando to the north west out side of the base (not in the base) and get
close enough to activate the base so you can use it...
second: you do not attack their north east base right off, but you recapture
your southwest base (it is on the north side of the river though).. i have
never tried your approach, but i will
third: here is the full story on what i do with the right arrow, SCB11eb,
which is different from what you have...
NOD level 11, right arrow SCB11eb. this is the easier of the two arrows, but
not by much. the other arrow is almost the same, except Rotting Corpse's
trick does not work.
troops in the north , and in the south on both sides of the river
it is a tough one
i will suggest a mix of starting strategies, if you have trouble at any
point, email me for more specifics. thanks to Rotting Corpse for his idea
posted on Nov 23rd. i think its a winner
1)save early, save often, save multiple versions of different portions
you have two sets of troops to command, those in the north, and some on the
southern bank of the river. first quickly go to the south east, pick up a
gunner, and move him directly north until he reaches the river. (the gunboat
will fire on him and reveal a portion of the map) then quickly go north to
the other troops.
1)in the north, take all men but one, go southeast until you can go
southwest, take out local GDI with appropriate units (ie to kill troops, use
the commando. for the jeep and tank, use bazooka and grenaders in a killing
field pattern, with gunners as decoys) .
2) leave you most wounded man behind for some R&R and to be a "scout".
actually he will be a target for the first airstrike, if local GDI troops
don't get him first.
3) go south west to the ridge overlooking the base (but not in the base).
Rotting Corpse says the commando is then close enough to auto open your base.
i suggest you then sandbag it closed after the harvester is gone build a
turret right between the two guard towers. it will level them both (keep it
repaired), and give you the ability to bring in your troops from the north,
and maybe take one out with the commando ("i got a present for you, hehehe").
then, you can use the turret to take out the gunboat. you may need to build
a sandbag wall to protect the turrent from counter attacks.
4) once inside, take over buildings(except for the refinery, save that for
later). if you are out of people, or just have the commando, make a gunner
and send him outside, above the North West corner of your base. he will
attract the air strike that is comming soon. if you don't know it, airstrike
hits the north western most portion of your units / buildings. better a $100
unit than your construction yard.
that is just part one
part two (this assumes you still have to worry about the gunboat):
the southern troops are ready, you can now see most of the gunboat's actions,
so timming is important. first you have some GDI grenaders along the river,
keep setting up killings fields with the artillery, and send out a gunner to
lure them into the fields one by one. work you way along the river bank but
head due south as soon as possible. there you will find more GDI troops, and
maybe a small tank or two. once they are dealt with, go due west along the
southern border, then north along the ridge to the bridge that's guarded by a
mamoth tank.
hopefully you saved your bazooka men and saved most artillery. creep as
close as possible with them and then attack in unison. the mamoth tank will
be confused and hopefully an easy kill (most artificial intelligence (AI)
units will shoot at the last enemy that shot at them, enought shooters and
the become confused and may never shooot) . that should be all the GDI. send
only the troopers over the bridge and to the town being careful not to get
too close to the gunboat. the church has a money box in it, destroy the
church and get it.
you could try taking out the gunboat with the bazooka men (the artillery take
too long to lock on. or just use the turret. the artillary will reach
across the river to support your base for a while, but they in turn can be
reached by tanks, so be careful.
part three) open the sandbags to let the harvester back in and take over the
refinery with an engineer just after it docks. the commando is great for
taking out GDI who knock at your door, and the turret will shoot fairly far.
when you have enough money, you can extend the sandbags to clearer land, and
put up an Obolisk of light and build outside the walls
from here, you can try it on your own. if you still get stuck, just e mail me
