HELP!!!! NETWORK PROBLEM

I am having problems when trying to run a network game i have an
AST BRAVO P/90 with;
win95
sb16 sound card 
2x speed cd-rom
1 540 mb hdd
1 340 mb hdd
32 mb ram
3com etherlink III ISA (3c509b-combo) in PnP mode and,
a i486 dx2 66 with;
win95
diamond stealth 32 (1mb)
6x gcd-r560b
540 mb hdd
3com etherlink III ISA (3c509b-combo) in PnP mode.
The network works fine normally and when playing DOOM,DOOM II but when
i get up to either start
network game or join network game the 486 locks up i have used first
aid for win 95 and winprobe
v4.0 and both have reported no problem with network.
