I just finsihed building a new system, partialy so I could play Generals. My old system was a PIII 500 with an original ATI AIW Radeon. The new system is a P4 2.53 533FSB and 512meg of DDR333. I tried an ATI AIW Radion 8500DV in this rig. The 8500DV only has 64meg and is clocked way down compared to a regular 8500 GPU. This did not do well with Generals. The action would get jerky and the cursor would disappear whenever I moved it. Even with the cursor still it would blink. Needless to say playing was very difficult since I wouldn't be able to track the cursor during battle. Over the weekend some local stores got ATI AIW 8500s in stock. I snapped one up Sunday and what a difference!!! Everything looks great and no hick-ups what so ever. I can really tell that the AIW 8500 has a full functioning 8500 GPU compared to the 8500DVs hobbled processor. Just a point of reference for everyone- stay away from the AIW 8500DV for Generals.

Go to ATI and Get the tweak for your card You can speed it up considerably. I found drivers, dip switch settings, individual game tweeks and all kinds of stuff on the ATI site for fixing 8500DV bugs but nothing specifically telling me how to overclock the 8500DV. (Okay... maybe overclocking is the wrong term) Anyway... any chance you could provide the URL to the ATI web site discussing the tweek? Thanks Elton
