1 - Introducion
===============

 1.1 - Unified FAQ
 =================

 The Unified FAQ (UFAQ) for the Command & Conquer newsgroups was put
together by Sigbjrn Lund Olsen (aka Eol or The Profound Eol) from various
pieces of the AGRA / AGTS / AGRA2 FAQs. Its purpose is to move all the
newsgroup posting guidelines into one FAQ to minimize work on every FAQ, and
to establish a common standard for all the Command & Conquer newsgroups. It
is also to provide as a _small_ guide to the Command & Conquer newsgroups
for newbies to read. The UFAQ will be posted once a week in every Command &
Conquer newsgroup. Suggestions and comments can be sent to the current
maintainer of the UFAQ.

 1.2 - Group-specific FAQs
 =========================

 Some of the groups covered by the UFAQ also has a group-specifc FAQ
answering questions related to the specific game covered by the group. The
group-specific FAQs do not have posting guidelines in them any longer, as
the UFAQ covers this topic.

2 - Newsgroup Guidelines
========================

 The C&C newsgroups are unmoderated newsgroups, but the regulars there have
a few basic rules and guidelines that we believe are common courteousy and
netiquette...

 2.1 - Posting 101
 =================

 There is a loose, general standard for posts on the Usenet, and following
this standard is considered good netiquette on the Usenet. You should follow
the guidelines as written in this UFAQ, and in addition to the other points
specified, there are certain things you should and should not do.

 You should intersperse your reply in between the quoted text to which you
are replying to. Non-relevant quoted text should be removed - the reply
should still be possible to put within context through the quoted text. On
no account shall quoted text be modified - this is considered trolling of
the worst sort, and will be treated as such.

 Try to be polite when asking questions and you are likely to get and
answer, provided the question is sensible. Do not make demands, you are
likely to be flamed, at the very least your question is unlikely to be taken
seriously.

 Do not overuse caps, only use this to emphasise the odd word here and
there. Whole messages or phrases typed in caps are considered to be shouting
and this is considered offensive.

 Try to have correct grammar (especially capitalization and punctuation) as
this makes your posts easier to read. Do not write like an "l33t haX0r" and
expect to get a (serious) reply.

 When replying to off-topic posts check which newsgroups the message was
sent to as some people crosspost. In the case of crossposts bear in mind
that others do not know which newsgroup you received the message in. If the
crosspost is a result of spam or trolling, you should remove all groups
which you are not posting to. Try not to crosspost unless necessary, and
remove any superfluous groups from a reply to a crossposted thread.

 2.2 - Newbies
 =============

 As a general rule new users should lurk in the newsgroup for at least a few
days to get a feel for the type of messages posted. Newbies should also read
the FAQ. Often, an answer for the question which a new user wishes to ask is
already answered. Frequently repeated questions can be very tiresome for the
regulars, and may be targeted for ridicule and general flaming.

 2.3 - Trolls
 ============

 Trolls will be counter-flamed until they are burnt to a crispy shell. Bear
with the NG in question during the process of doing so - a world without
trolls is much better to live (and post) in. Trolls are considered people
who make insults towards members etc with no need, reason, or purpose in the
newsgroup. People who repeatedly disrespect the other users of the NG are
usually also regarded as trolls.

 2.4 - Flames
 ============

 At times disagreements will occur, and/or trolls will appear. Furthermore,
the regulars of the groups sometimes flame newbies when they do not follow
netiquette (if you read this UFAQ and take it to heart you won't have that
problem). One should try to avoid flaming anyone. You should also consider
taking the disagreement to e-mail, especially so if other users of the
newsgroups request this.

 2.5 - On-Topic / Off-Topic
 ==========================

 The C&C newsgroups are generally extremely tolerant of off-topic posts, and
off-topic posts are allowed in these groups. An effort should be made to
post on-topic posts every now and then. The C&C groups have a saying - "Come
for the game, stay for the people." - The regulars of the groups are a very
closely knit bunch, and as such idle talk will always be a major part of the
C&C newsgroups. Newbies should respect this, and should at no time assume
that they can, should or must change this - previous attempts have led to
large flame wars.

 2.6 - Top Posting
 =================

 As mentioned in 2.1, you should intersperse your comments into your
replies. This means you do *not* top post - for any people who don't know,
top-posting is the posting of a reply above the quoted text, without any
reply interspersed later on.

 2.7 - HTML
 ==========

 HTML posts are not welcome in the C&C newsgroups - many people who read it
pay for internet time, and since HTML posts are larger than text posts, they
increase download time. Also, there should be no need for HTML, as plain
text is a good enough media.

 2.8 - Binaries
 ==============

 AT NO TIME SHOULD YOU EVER POST BINARIES TO AN alt.* GROUP THAT IS NOT IN
THE alt.binaries.* hierarchy! Binaries (ALL attachments are binaries... That
includes VCards and attached text files) should be direct to the newsgroup
alt.binaries.games.command-n-conq, or the RA2-specific binaries newsgroup
alt.binaries.games.redalert2 - alt.binaries.games.command-n-conq is more
widely propagated, mind. Many people who read newsgroups have to pay for
internet time - respect that by not posting binaries. If you post a binary
to any of the regular C&C newsgroups, then the regulars there will consider
you a troll and fry you into a crisp shell. Consider yourself warned!

 2.9 - Signatures
 ================

 Signatures should not be excessively long or offensive - use common
sense... If other members of the NG find your signature to be too long or
offensive, please respect them and change it.

 2.10 - Spam
 ===========

 Don't spam. On-topic advertising (Anything related to the newsgroup in
question) is permissible, but not repeatedly. If need be, put the link in
your signature and post useful posts.

 2.11 - Clans / Squads
 =====================

 No clan/squad warfare in these NGs. No clan/squad advertising except for in
sigs - and ONE recruitment post. You can make clan/squad challenges etc, but
do not argue about which clan/squad is the best. Clan/squad warfare and
repeated recruitment posts will be regarded as trolling...

 2.12 - Cheats / Hacks / Cracks / Trainers
 =========================================

 None of the C&C games on the PC platform have any cheats. Cheats, hacks,
cracks, trainers, and warez are off-topic and unwanted in the C&C
newsgroups, and will therefore almost always result in either ridicule or
flames. DO NOT ASK FOR CHEATS, HACKS, CRACKS OR TRAINERS AND DO NOT ASK FOR
SUPPORT FOR THESE THINGS EITHER. You use hacks, cracks and trainers at your
own risk, and they are illegal through the terms of your licence (You do
have one, right?) to the game, and are thus not supported by Virgin Games,
Electronic Arts or Westwood Studios. They are not supported by us either.

3 - The Adjective Army
======================

 The Adjective Army is a group of people that reside in the C&C newsgroups,
and indeed, most of the regulars are members of the Adjective Army (termed
as Adjective Assholes, due to our favourite troll, Hans). The Adjective Army
have a separate FAQ and a separate group, alt.fan.adjective-army, and a
website, http://www.adjective-army.com/. The AA website is also the host of
the various NG websites, which at the time of writing, there are none of.
There used to be an AGTS website, but it currently only exists on my HD. I
need to update and rewrite it before putting it up.

 Do not assume that the AA are evil or trolls - we are not. We maintain the
FAQs, we answer questions, we try to help, we maintain the websites etc etc.
Without the AA the groups would by all likelihood be dead. Furthermore, the
AA are relatively organized, and as such are capable of efficiently
"dealing" with trolls - the AA has never, ever, *ever*, lost a flamewar.

We already have a private community - *this* is it. If you can't cope
with that then do the "other thing".

In general, you suck at games and/or are too miserly to buy them.

Nooo, you're making a thinking-mistake here... you think we're here for
others. We're not; we're here for our entertainment.
And it's clueless dumbasses such as yourself that provide us with such
entertainment.
Next to that, we're willing to help people with gaming problems and are
maintaining Usenet Etiquette (up to a certain point).

We *have* a private community, you ignorant dolt. This very newsgroup(s).
Now, don't slam the door too hard when you leave.

You can say what you want, but fortunately I am not in ear shot to have to
put up with listening to it. You can also write what you want but it will
largely be mocked and picked apart in these NG's

>I Cheat, I lie,

All in all a waste of materials then aren't you?

Come on now, the "-" key isn't any where near the ' key. Some typos are
forgivable but if hte keys aren't even near each other....are you using some
kind of deformed key board? An american style one maybe?

deciding not to.

Only those people who actually want us to help them or just want to join in

Oke. does anyone here know anything about the word private. Look in the
dictionary and you will see that it means, not allowed for everyone. So this
forum is farrrrrrrr from private and the need for a UFUCK says it all.

Then about the typing thing. How long did you search? I try and read your
thoughts.
##Damn the boy is right, we are losers, but in our ufaq it is said that we
must flame everybody that thinks we are losers. So lets see, he is right
thus I must find something else.

<SEARCHING>

Yes a type error. Let's flame him on that. Now he's sorry for all the times
he messed with me##

Come on. Is that the only thing you can say to me. . At least the others
tried to 'flame'.

Private can also be applied to control. This NG is under our private control
and if you want an easy time here you better get along with us.

Search? For what?

Whoa, your psychic probe is way off. Looks like your getting feed back and
just realising your own subconscious aknowledgement of your own lack of
ability to win.

No, it says (okay, infers) we flame people who ARE loosers, hence you get
flamed.

>So lets see, he is right

You really should work on those psychic powers. The only things I think
about are molecular biology, genetics, how I am right all the time (thus
precuding the possability of me thinking I am wrong) and of course, sex
(with females exclusively, sorry to dissapoint some of you out there...Blont
maybe).

A stupid typer error actually. I wouldn't have bothered if it was a key
right next to ' like a ; or a # but it was two keys away. Of course for all
the sense that your posts make, you are probably just mashing the keyboard
with your palm.

>

Yeah, but I was late on the scene and all your other stupidity had already
been covered. It would reflect really well on me if I just reiterated what
others had posted.

My stupidity? Already covered? The only thing I heard is some people trying
to come up with stuff that is totally of the subject. I've not been flamed
yet. Only that typing error were i'm smashing my keyboard. The reason
therefore was probably the fact that I can't stand the ignorance level you
people live by. Go have life of your own in stead of trying to build a
community that consists only out of a bunch of computer nerds who will give
their life for their net-code.

I read in the faq that you people never lose in flaming? Have you ever had a
real battle? May'be I'm the only one that is stupid enough that keeps trying
to teach you guys real lessons in flaming. The rest probably thought it had
no use and saw no real challenge. Well I do, I believe in you guys. I think
that in a couple of months you will have the skills to go out of your
'private community' and try the real internet. But first you can practice
with me to learn the basics.

Yeah, but its fun to point out others failings.

Hearing things while reading this NG? Either you have noisy neighbours or
you need psychiatric help (okay, the second one is already established).

Exceptions break the rule, hence you have been flamed and thus saying you
haven't is a load of bollocks.

The reason you were (and presumably still are) mashing the keyboard with
your palm? Your right, we do have to live by a high level of ignorance
otherwise known as people like you.

>Go have life of your own in stead of trying to build a

The irony being that you need to be a computer nerd yourself to be posting
the volume of crap against us that you are doing. Is this some sort of
manifestation of your own self loathing? You need to accept yourself for who
you are and learn to be happy without having to pick fault with others to
make your self feel big.

Yeah, with real competition too unlike this little game we are playing with
you.

>May'be I'm the only one that is stupid enough

No, we have had to deal with equally stupid people in our time, but they had
more raw talent than you to make up for it.

Incoherent drivel hardly counts as "teaching" us lessons in "flaming"

I don't think you quite understand the level at which we "play" this little
game. We've toppled whole newsgroups of people, so toying with you is just
for our amusement.

>But first you can practice

I think you need to learn the basics of life. Lets start at the
beggining...one day you mommy and daddy really loved each other............

I don't think taking lessons in stupidity is really a productive use of my
time, so I'll stick to biochemistry.

Your utter stupidity, displayed here in these NGs. Indeed.

Well, you had better start looking then, because right now you're a torch.

MOMMA! He named me a computernerd! Really, he did! Go get him, mom!

>I read in the faq that you people never lose in flaming?

That's right.

> Have you ever had a real battle?

Several.
This, BTW, is not one of them. You're a mere ignorant idiot, refusing to see
that you're being played with by everybody else.

> May'be I'm the only one that is stupid enough that keeps trying to teach you
guys real lessons in flaming.

So far, we're waiting for something more catching than calling us "computernerds
who will give their life for their net-code".

> The rest probably thought it had no use and saw no real challenge.

At least *pretend* to do your best. This does not even get close to an insult.

Usenet.

Pfwhehehehe...

Boy, you're nothing special.
There is only one reason we reply to you, and that is because we need some
target practice. You're one in a large row of targets that have come and gone in
these newsgroups the last 3 years... all of them thought they were special. All
of them thought they were booking success because we replied to them, and none
of them ever realized that they were the mouse in a cats nest, simply being used
to provide us the necessary entertainment next to our own drivel.

Sure I understand that you want to make my look bad. But what makes it so
unbelievable simplistic is that you can't make up your own story. Replying
to every sentence is easy and really not quite original. Effective is
something else. You're trying to make a point and thats a good thing, but
outside people who read this will have more respect for you if you make a
story of your own. MAy'be you can practise this in the weekend cause I'm
going away then.

But remember I'll be back on tuesday to see if you people have learned.

Okay, now goodbye to you all and remember: Practisssssssssseeee

Yes, it is.

Nope. This is as effective as can be and you know it.

Your arguments, never having any real fighting value, have now completely
ceased to make sense.
Which means you entered the next phase: the Keepituplongerthanthem-phase.

We won. And it took us 3 posts.
See why you're target-practice instead of a real opponent?

"practise" is a verb, "practice" is a noun (and an adjective).
