H E L P !!!! Anybody out there got Command & Conquer running on an IBM DX4-100 ? I can start a game or load a save game but it'll eventually freeze the screen and only turning the power off/on will restart the machine. Sound stops too. At first I thought it was a mouse problem. But I loaded a new MS mouse Version 9.0 and that didn't help. I have a Compaq P90 at home and I was able to fix the mouse problem on the Compaq by loading this Mouse Driver and it fixed the compaq (PS/2 type mouse on both machines). The only way I can play the game is to disable sound all together in the SETUP.EXE for the game. I have a Sound Blaster Vibra 16 board in the machine but even if I installed a Proaudio Spectrum 16 in the machine it still hang with the exact symptom. I borrowed another Vibra 16 and still the same problem. Two symptoms that I've noticed on it. The screen freezes, no sound and no mouse movement. The 2nd symptom is that the program would crash with big letters/numbers on the screen and freezes. The latter seldom happens now. I've replaced my memory (16Mb) but didn't fix it either. I've disabled cache in the machine. I've installed another video adapter. I've even tried copying the CDROM to a big hard drive and did the CDEMUlator program thinking that there might be some problem with the CDROM data transfer. I've stripped down my CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT. I've tried runnning it within MS-WINDOWS. ALL TO NO AVAIL! H E L P !!! I've sent email to WestWood but nobody replied. I'll try them again later. Here's my machines configuration: Intel 486DX-100 w/ 256Kb cache ISA bus 16 MEG memory PS/2 type mouse S3 Video resident card 2x CDROM drive, Sound Blaster Vibra 16 540 Meg IDE hard drive (I've tried a SCSI drive too) I've appreciate any suggestions/comments from C&C fans out there! I've appreciate to hear from any IBM Valuepoint owners too. Thanks much! +---------------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Rene Viray (510) 643-0873 Fx: 642-2300|Email: re...@ME.Berkeley.EDU | | Dept. of Mechanical Engineering | >> Computer & Network Services <<| | University of California |\ / +-- | | 2113 Etcheverry Hall ||\ /| +- | | Berkeley, CA 94720-1740 || \/ | o |___ o DEPARTMENT | +---------------------------------------+----------------------------------+ -- +---------------------------------------+----------------------------------+ | Rene Viray (510) 643-0873 Fx: 642-2300|Email: re...@ME.Berkeley.EDU | | Dept. of Mechanical Engineering | >> Computer & Network Services <<|

I too have got a 486DX-100 16MB Ram and double speed CD-Rom. I do not have the problems like you , but you could download the 1.18 / 1.19 patch from Westwood.Maybe that can solve something. Here's the address: ftp.westwood.com Dir:/com/pub/cc1/updates/ Good luck Gert ------------------------------------- Gerrit Stubbe - The Netherlands http://www.xs4all.nl/~gerstubb -------------------------------------
