Microsoft makes decent sogtware, but their strength lies in the
marketting genius of Gates.
He's an amazing bussinessman. no question.  He's built his empire on
DOS, and has continued to build new products that have pushed him ot the
front of the computer industry.
Macs might have been better, but they were too expensive. Good
computers, not so good marketting.  I don't think Bill Gates is that
impressive as a computer guy, what impresses me about him is his ability
to market his software.  He's a genius. no question.  Microsoft has alot
of very good people working on their stuff, and make good products. not
perfect, but good, and 'non-computer' people don't want to get stuck
with software that they won't be able to at least transfer to a new
computer in 5 years.  I  like unix, macs, and pcs.  I'm looking to build
a new computer, and will get both linux, and win95.  For any new apps
(read games)  I'll need win95. It's not the most flexible, robust os,
but everyone uses it, develops on it, and for most gamers,  it is the
only way to go.  who wants to play the newest games 6months late.  not
me.  my dad can even use win95.  it's not as bad as hard core unix
people think.
