Only part I'm writing about's toward the bottom. ArchMage said that English was decided on by the Tower people by some treaty or something. I heard that it was just because America had the first airport system, so everybody else had to use English so that pilots and airlines in general could operate internationally; France was just a few months away from being the international language. Another of the virtues of French is that if one can speak French and gets lost in southeast Asia, it's usually possible to find a French speaker faster than an English speaker.
