Nice theory man... i suppose market economies are by definition
meritocricies also? The market place will not punish  Microsoft
because it has this neat thing called a Monopoly. If a publisher or
hardware vendor for ibm compatibles abandons microsoft, he quite
simply goes out of business. Period. Bill Gates has total control over
the OS and is extending that control wider by the day. Intentionally.
If i were him, i would do the same thing. But this right wing idiocy
that "this is successful because it is the best because it is
successful" circular reasoning is just dumb.  Oh, and they DO give
away free os's and api's... check out LINUX and the miriad of api's
out there for it..
