I did this too my first couple of tries; seems like the right way
to do it, but, (depending on which version, there's TWO different ones
that I've played) at least in the first the enemy lands a transport chopper
and sends a bunch of troops behind you and even though they're weakened
by going through Tiberium, it's enough to wear you down to wear you wont
last the game. In the second, the troops all rally up behind you before
you can do much serious damage.

To me the key was 1) learning to use the APC to crush enemy troops in the
way, 2) leave troops in the APC as much as possible - try to bypass
enemy minigunners or run them over and run over bazookas too, and 3) try
to bolt past the enemy armor at the end, unload and send EVERYONE on foot
towards the crate. This was an inelegant, messy solution.

Good Luck
