Anyone else out there remember NUROS at the
University of Nebraska in the late 70's and early 80's?
Stood for one of two things:
Nebraska University Remote Operating System
or
Nurotic Operating System
:-)
Nurotic came from the fact that it ALWAYS went down without
warning everytime the system load got too high... I remember feeding
decks of punched FORTRAN cards to NUROS for a beginning enginering
class. It ran on an IBM 360 at the time... They have since phased
it out for CMS and TSO... I heard rumors that there was another site
actually running it a few years ago.
